Training for Homebuyers

The Pre-Purchase Orientation (PPO) workshop educates clients on the following topics: The Homebuying process including discussion on the role of the buyer/seller and the various professionals involved; questions to assess readiness to buy, preparing   for home purchase, understanding credit, mortgage financing, D.C. Home Purchase Assistance Program (HPAP & EAHP), tax  relief programs, predatory lending and fair housing issues. This clinic is intended to help prospective homebuyers understand the home purchase process and allow  them to determine their readiness to purchase a home in the DC metropolitan region. Walk-ins are welcome. 

Following the presentation, clients are given the opportunity to schedule an appointment to meet with a

Housing Counselor regarding one  of the following:

•  Pre-Purchase counseling

•  Money/Credit counseling, or

•  an HPAP/EAHP application session

Service providers, housing industry professionals and other organizations often contact the Training Department 

to  schedule Pre-Purchase workshops for specific groups.

 

English Workshop:  Every Thursday from 11AM-1PM and the first Wednesday of the month from 6PM-8PM

 

Spanish Workshop:  Every other Wednesday (September 5^th & 19^th) and the second Tuesday of the month 

from  6PM-8PM

The workshop is designed to educate people on budgeting and credit issues, with the goal of preparing them for home purchase. Includes: Management of financial resources. creating a budget, tracking expenses, differentiating between fixed and variable expenses, understanding credit, and savings. This workshop is beneficial to renters, homebuyers and homeowners alike. Walk-ins are welcome.

• Money/Credit counseling
